maldon high school to celebrate fifty years in 2019.
Maldon High School, located in southern St. James at Summer Hill, wiill be celebrating 50 years of service to a vast number of communities in southern Jamaica on September 1, 2019. The school was officially opened on September 1, 1969, as a junior secondary school, with Principal Stanley M. Buddle, but was later reclassified as Maldon Comprehensive High in 1995. It was again transformed into Maldon High School in 1999, putting it on equal status with other traditional Jamaica's High Schools. This institution has been through numerous changes to it's carriculum and infrastructure and is currently in the process of a major transformation, to regain accademic status amongst top high schools in Jamaica.
Throughout the years, Maldon High School has graduated many great scholars, many of whom are at the top of their careers fields, and are scattered across the globe. They are extremely proud of their economic status and achievements and owe their upbrining to this noble institution. Though most of its past students remains local, the north American continent is home to the majority of Maldon Alumni outside of Jamaica. There are hugh concentrations of Alumni in Florida, New York and New Jersey in the USA and several large cities in Canada, including Ontario, Quebec and Ottawa, just to mention a few.
In 2015, the first official Maldon High School Alumni Association was formed and registered in the USA by current President, Mr. Owen Anderson Sr., and a slew of passionate and dedicated Alumni Directors, most of whom resides in the States of New York and New Jersey. July 23rd thru 30th, 2017, saw the first Grand Reunion of members with a Banquet and Awards Ceremony in Montego Bay, Jamaica. During the Grand Reunion week, a local chapter of the M.H.S.A.A. was formed, headed by Ms. Julia McGhie.
Plans are being made to bring the majority of Maldon past students and teachers from 1972 through 2019, to a massive 50th Anniversary celebration, to take place in the various communities which the school serves. Stay tuned for more information leading up to this Great Reunion.
